Kathmandu, June 11
In the name of transforming the parliamentary practice into a paperless system, the government is preparing to distribute a laptop to each of the members of the Federal Parliament.
Total 334 lawmakers including 275 members of the House of Representatives and 59 of the National Assembly will get the gift.
The Parliament Secretariat has issued a call for tenders to purchase the laptops last week. The interested firms have been given one month to file their proposals.
“The Secretariat has been spending a big amount of money in papers, printing and photocopying,” the Secretariat spokesperson Roj Nath Pandey informs, “Therefore, laptops will be provided to the lawmakers in order to make the Secretariat paperless.”
After distributing the devices, the lawmakers will also be provided with a training course if they need it.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance also approved the Secretariat’s plan.
It is expected that the project would cost the government Rs 35 million.
