Govt puts on hold proposal of bringing back Baluwatar land to its ownership

Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation

Kathmandu, September 19

The government has put on hold a proposal that could enable it to bring back the controversial Lalita Niwas land adjacent to the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar of Kathmandu, citing doing so immediately would breach the jurisdiction of a constitutional body.

As the anti-corruption constitutional body, Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority has also launched an investigation into the case, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Minister of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Padma Kumari Aryal have decided to put the ministry’s proposal on hold till the commission’s investigation reached a conclusion, according to sources.

Earlier, the ministry officials had informed that they already concluded the investigations and found that 114 ropani controversial land belonged to the government.

“The minister has already signed the proposal, but it has not been forwarded to the Cabinet as the CIAA and the Central Investigation Bureau are probing the case,” an official says.
