Govt prepares to build overhead bridges in Koteshwor and Baneshwor

Pedestrians crossing the road in Baneshwor.

Kathmandu, March 25

The Department of Roads is planning to build overhead bridges in Koteshwor and Baneshwor–two intersections in the city crossed by thousands of pedestrians every day.

According to the department’s Managing Director Rabindra Shrestha, the overhead bridges will be built as temporary structures as the department is planning to build an underpass similar to the one in Kalanki in both areas.

The department has already selected a company to construct the bridges. However, a formal contract hasn’t been signed yet. The department will sign a formal contract with Prakriti-Pawan JV in the coming weeks.

The construction company will be given six months and Rs 54 million for the construction of the two bridges. The bridge in Baneshwor is expected to cost around Rs 35 million and the one in one in Koteshwor around Rs Rs 29 million.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City had planned to build an overhead bridge in the Baneshwor. But it didn’t get the permission to do so because of safety concerns as it is close to the Parliament Building.
