Kathmandu, January 24

The government of Nepal is preparing to study in detail the possibility of yet another railway project in Kathmandu Valley in its bid to get rid of perennial traffic congestion.

The Department of Railway is beginning the study on the Satdobato-Ratna Park-Maharajgunj project. It has recently called for bids to prepare a detailed project report.

Interested companies have been asked to submit their documents by March 26.

The Department has already conducted a feasibility study in 2011 through a Korean contractor.

Aman Chitrakar, spokesperson of the Department, says construction works will begin on the route after the preparation of DPR.

Meanwhile, four companies have expressed interest to prepare the DPR for Naagdhunga-Dhulikhel railway project, according to the Investment Board Nepal. The final selection, however, is yet to be made.
