Kathmandu, September 7

The government has ended the suspension on land plot splitting after three years.

Minister for Land Management, Poverty Alleviation and Cooperatives, Padma Aryal, recently made the decision last Thursday, informs the ministry.

Around three years ago, the then land reform minister Gopal Dahit had introduced the suspension arguing it was necessary to protect the arable land from splitting into smaller land plots for construction.

The move, however, was criticised as it barred people with small capitals from purchasing land for different purposes. Likewise, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority had received a complaint that some officials demanded kickback from the public to facilitate the splitting illegally.

The ministry has already directed the Department of Survey and the Department of Land Management and Archive to implement the recent decision.
