Kathmandu, August 20
The Bagmati provincial government has decided to give a public holiday across the province on Monday, August 23, on the occasion of the Gai Jatra festival.
In a notice, the Provincial Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law said all offices under the provincial government would be closed that day.
The annual festival is celebrated across the country, but Newars, the indigenous inhabitants of the Kathmandu valley, a part of the province, mark it with more fervours.
Previously, the federal government would announce a public holiday in the valley on the occasion of this festival.
