Former lawmakers will also get recognised as former VIPs after a law related to facilities and benefits of former state office-bearers will be endorsed from Parliament and enacted by the President.
They, however, will not get regular pension as other former VIPs including presidents, vice-presidents, prime ministers and deputy-prime ministers.
The agreement was made during a meeting of a sub-committee under the State Affairs Committee in Parliament today. Lawmaker Jeevan Bahadur Shahi-led sub-committee will submit its report to SAC today.
Earlier, some lawmakers had demanded monthly pension to former lawmakers as well and differences among parties about it had left the bill stuck in the sub-committee.
But today, the parties have agreed to give the VIP status to the lawmakers excluding pension, according to lawmaker Rabindra Pratap Shah.
Further, members of the second Constituent Assembly, which promulgated the constitution in 2015, will share the equal status with sitting lawmakers, according to the agreement.
