Election Commission: Counting to begin only after voting in all districts

Kathmandu, October 18

The Election Commission says it will begin counting of votes only after both phases of voting will be over under provincial and federal parliamentary elections to be held in the country.

The voting will be held in 32 districts of mountainous and high hilly regions on November 26; and in 45 districts of hilly region and plains on December 7.

But, the Commission says votes from the first 32 districts will also be counted after December 7.

The Commission’s spokesperson Nawaraj Dhakal says managing human resources will be easier to count the votes together. Further, counting the votes together will also rule out the possibility of influencing results of the second phase from the first phase results, he claims.

Earlier, local level elections were held in three phases, and counting was done immediately after each phase.
