Kathmandu, September 27

As many as 78 political parties among the 132 registered have failed to submit details of their expenses for the fiscal year 2018/19 as required by the law, informs Election Commission.

Those missing the deadline also include Samjha Party led by Rabindra Mishra.

Other major parties, however, have submitted the details on time.

The Act on Political Parties requires a party to submit its expense and income details to the commission in six months of the end of the fiscal year. Therefore, the parties still have three and a half months to submit the details for the last fiscal year 2019/20.

For the previous year, only 54 parties submitted the details, informs a deputy attorney in the commission Rudra Prasad Subedi, adding the commission has been following up with them.

Currently, there is not any law that has a provision of punishment upon failure to submit the details, the commission’s spokesperson Raj Kumar Shrestha informs. However, preparations are underway to formulate a law in this regard, according to him.
