Kathmandu, November 1

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal says it will prepare the detailed project report for an airport in Chuhandanda of Tehrathum district in eastern Nepal within this fiscal year. The then Minister for Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari had assured locals of constructing the airport there a few hours before he died in a helicopter crash in the region, in February this year.

The authority has now begun its works for the environmental impact assessment and detailed project report and is planning to complete the both by mid-July the next year, informs the authority’s information officer Trilocahn Paudel.  “After completing the preliminary preparations this year,” he says, “We will begin construction works then.”

The authority has allocated Rs 10 million for the project this year. Late Adhikari had told his audience on his last day that the estimated cost of the project would be Rs 870 million in total.
