Dahal accuses Oli of registering new UML party

Pushpa Kamal Dahal

Kathmandu, July 24

A chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, has accused another chairman, KP Sharma Oli, of taking initiatives to register the new CPN-UML party at the Election Commission.

Dahal’s statement comes at a time when the party has been caught in a standstill owing to a dispute between them. Dahal has been demanding that Oli resign from the positions of the prime minister and the party, which Oli has been refusing to consider. While the dispute was ongoing, a group had applied for registering a party named the CPN-UML, the one that Oli led before merging with the Dahal-led CPN-Maoist Centre to form the NCP.

Speaking at a function organised on the occasion of Pushpa Lal Memorial Day in Kathmandu on Friday, Dahal said, “When the party meeting was ongoing, the CPN-UML has been registered in active initiatives of the other chairperson.”

He also expressed his dissatisfaction with some street demonstrations held in support of the Oli government.
