Kathmandu, November 10

The main opposition CPN-UML is showing flexibility on the issue of Constitution amendment, though it has the strategy of not commenting on the issue for now.

The party has said the government has not consulted with it on the issue of Charter amendment. It said it will come up with its stance on the issue once Madheshi Morcha (UDMF) and ruling parties produce their draft amendment proposal.

UML leaders had been speaking against Charter amendment, now they have started saying that Constitution may be amended as per the needs of the country and aspirations of the people.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Prachanda has held talks with UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Constitution amendment. After meeting Oli, PM Prachanda expressed hope that UML will help the government amend the Charter.

A major UML leader said his party had conveyed to the ruling parties that it will show flexibility on Constitution amendment if the latter make no compromise on the issues of provincial boundaries and naturalised citizenship. He said: Our party Chair has given the message that they will show flexibility on the issue of the amendment proposal if such an amendment is not against national interest and if does not seek to rile peoples living peacefully (by altering provincial boundaries).
