Consumers queue for LPG cylinders as govt opens 6 exchange centres

Kathmandu, October 11

The government has arranged for the distribution of cooking gas and the exchange of cylinders at six locations in the Kathmandu Valley from this morning to prevent shortages during Dashain.

In coordination with gas industries, the district administration offices of all three districts in the Valley and the Federation of Gas Dealers, the government has introduced a provision allowing consumers to exchange an empty cylinder of any brand for a filled cylinder of another brand from today until October 17.

Under the new arrangement, consumers do not have to pay any additional charge to exchange cylinders of different brands. They only need to pay the prescribed price for the filled gas cylinder.

With consumers now able to exchange cylinders of any brand and purchase a filled one, people have been queuing since early morning to obtain a cylinder.

According to the Nepal LP Gas Industry Association, the six designated sales centres will provide gas cylinders of different brands. Gas and Oxygen Traders in Sifalchaur, Kathmandu, will sell and exchange Everest and Sugam gas cylinders, while Sagar gas will be available in Pepsi Cola. Nepal, HP, Geeta, Rajdhani and Triveni gas cylinders will be sold and exchanged in front of the gate of the Balaju Industrial Estate.

Similarly, Baba and Shree gas cylinders will be available in Sukedhara, Sai Baba and Shree Krishna gas in Kalanki, and Shriram gas in Harisiddhi, Lalitpur.

Cylinder exchanges will be available from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm daily until October 17.

Association Chair Diwan Chand said the provision allowing consumers to exchange cylinders without paying an additional fee during Dashain would provide significant relief.

He said efforts would be made to ensure that all consumers waiting in line receive gas cylinders before leaving.
