Chinese company to construct Budhigandaki Hydroelectric Project

Kathmandu, May 23

The government has decided to assigned the Gezhouba Group of China to construct the reservoir-type Budhigandaki Hydroelectric Project.

A Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday made the decision about construction of 1,200-megawatt project.

Minister for Energy Janardan Sharma informed that the Chinese company would construct the project in engineering procurement contruction with finance (EPCF) model.

According to the model, the company itself will make investments in the project, which Nepal will pay back after the construction.

“This is the first experiment of its kind in Nepal,” Sharma said.

The detail project report has estimated that the project would cost Rs 250 billion.

Around 20,000 population living by the river in Dhading and Gorkha districts will be displaced by the project.
