What bodies to keep, what to remove in federal setup? PMO seeks suggestions from ministries

Kathmandu, January 23

The Prachanda government has directed all ministries and central level departments to submit reports suggesting government bodies that they want retained or removed in course of implementing federalism. It has told them to explain why they want certain bodies retained or removed.

The Office of the Prime Minister has directed the ministries to prepare their reports in keeping with provisions mentioned in Annex 5 to 9 of the Constitution. All ministries and central level departments will have to submit their reports to the PMO within January 28.

Issuing circulars to all ministries and central level agencies, the PMO said: Necessary preparations for implementation of federalism are already underway. In course of administrative restructuring as per the Constitution, it appears that subordinate bodies like committees, boards and academies will not remain in place. In the changed context, we would like to know about the appropriate course of action from you. Do send us suggestions in this regard.
