The Bibeksheel Nepali Party and the Sajha Party, which have been claiming themselves to be alternative political forces, are preparing for merger, the party leaders have said.
Leaders from both parties say they have already finalised ideological issues and are trying to sort out some technical differences for unification.
It has been learned that they will go for a collective leadership till the unified party will hold a unity convention to elect the new leadership.
The two parties had tried unification before the first phase of local level elections in May as well. However, the attempt had failed after the parties had differences over who–either Rabindra Misha of Sajha or Ujwal Thapa of Bibeksheel–should lead the party.
Sajha Party spokesperson Surya Raj Acharya, who has been leading the talks team from his party, says if everything goes according to plan, the unification will be announced within a month.
Ramesh Paudel, leader of the talks team from Bibeksheel, agrees with Acharya and says, “We are trying to conclude the unification as soon as possible with an intention to establish value-based politics.”
