Bhagirathi Bhatta murder: Vaginal swab, DNA samples to be tested in Kathmandu

File: Bhagirathi Bhatta

Kathmandu, February 8

Investigators say they have decided to test vaginal swab and DNA samples of the 17-year-old Bhagirathi Bhatta, a native of Baitadi of Sudurpaschim, who was reportedly murdered after rape last week.

SP Mukesh Singh of the Provincial Police Office says the samples will be tested at the Central Forensic Lab of Nepal Police in Kathmandu.

Meanwhile, other items such as the victim’s mobile phone and clothes will also be brought to Kathmandu hoping they could contribute to the investigation as evidence, it has been learned.

Around two and a half-year-ago, a 13-year-old girl, Nirmala Pant, was killed in Kanchanpur of the province in a similar fashion. The police have not been able to find any culprit of the incident yet. Therefore, many fear Bhagirathi Bhatta’s case could also follow suit.
