Kathmandu, April 21
A flood in the Barun has blocked the Arun River at their confluence in Syaksilagola of Bhotkhola Rural Municipality in Sankhuwasabha district, forming a two-kilometre long artificial lake and keeping a human settlement at risk of inundation.
Four houses in Barun Bazaar have been inundated so far.
Chief District Officer Shivaraj Joshi informed that the river was blocked by stones and land masses brought in by the flood since 4 pm on Thursday.
Police personnel reached the site on Friday morning in a bid to open the blockage.
The confluence is 80 kilometres north of the district headquarters Khandbari.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi has directed authorities to open the blockage as soon as possible and ensure the safety of nearby human settlements.
