Kathmandu, October 28

Rajendra Pandey of the CPN-Unified Socialist has been appointed the chief minister of the Bagmati province on Thursday. Governor (Province Chief) Yadav Chandra Sharma administered the oath of office and secrecy to Pandey in Hetaunda today itself.

Earlier on Wednesday, incumbent Ashta Laxmi Shakya of the CPN-UML had resigned from her position as she was certain to fail in the vote of the confidence scheduled for yesterday.

Following that, Governor Sharma had called parties in the Provincial Assembly to claim the stake to the chief minister’s position with evidence of garnering majority support in the legislative, by 3 pm today.

As no one but Pandey staked the claim, he was appointed the chief minister. He had submitted signatures of 59 lawmakers of the 109-member assembly yesterday.

Meanwhile, Pandey formed his cabinet today itself, by incorporating one leader each from the CPN-Unified Maoist, CPN-Maoist Centre, and Nepali Congress.
