Agreement reached to resume waste disposal at Bancharedanda; Minister Ghising pledges to meet demands within 15 days

Kathmandu, November 2

Minister for Urban Development Kulman Ghising has pledged to fulfill the demands of residents living near the Bancharedanda landfill site within 15 days.

Following the minister’s commitment, locals have agreed to allow the disposal of garbage at the site again.

Locals had been obstructing waste dumping for the past four days. In response, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City had issued a notice urging residents not to take out household waste. A meeting held on Friday at the Ministry of Urban Development with representatives from the affected municipalities had ended without any conclusion.

To resolve the ongoing issue, Minister Ghising visited the Bancharedanda landfill site on Sunday morning.

Chairperson of Kakani Rural Municipality, Suman Tamang, said that the minister assured local residents and representatives from Kakani that all previous agreements would be implemented within 15 days.

Tamang told Onlinekhabar, “The minister has committed to implementing all the agreed and pending decisions. He also said that if the agreements are not implemented within the given timeframe for any reason, locals still have the right to protest.”
