Kathmandu, October 16
Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Company Limited has provided relief of Rs 500,000 each to the families of employees who went missing or died in the devastating Bhotekoshi River floods.
The company said it had distributed Rs 23.5 million to the families and relatives of 47 employees out of 53 missing and deceased employees, based on the documents received so far.
The relief was provided following the floods of August 26. The company said the remaining affected families would receive assistance after submitting the required documents.
According to the company, 52 employees, including 50 regular contract workers and two daily wage workers, went missing in the floods. The body of one employee has been identified. Information received from contractors also indicated that 39 employees and workers from various contracting companies went missing.
The floods severely damaged the hydropower project’s structures and affected its workforce and operations. Six concrete bridges along the route from Syafrubesi to the project site were completely destroyed, leaving no alternative access route until the damaged roads and bridges are reconstructed.
The company expressed regret over its inability to contact the missing employees’ families and participate in traditional mourning rituals during the initial days after the disaster.
It also pledged to facilitate access to accident insurance, Social Security Fund benefits, pensions, funeral expenses and accumulated leave payments for eligible families.
