Two workers were killed, and another was injured after a mound of soil suddenly collapsed on them during road construction in Nisikhola Rural Municipality-3, Bohoragaun, Baglung, on Sunday morning.
According to District Police Office Chief SP Phanindra Prasai, the deceased have been identified as 28-year-old Lal Bahadur Budhathoki of Salyan and 32-year-old Raju Thapa of Gaighat, Udayapur.
The three workers were buried when the soil mound collapsed at around 7:30 am while they were working on the Kapra-Bohoragaun-Chhapakhani-Pyuthan road section. Two of the buried workers died at the scene while rescuers were trying to recover them.
The third worker, Krishna Gharti Magar of Rolpa, was rescued in critical condition and taken to Provincial Hospital Burtibang for treatment, said Ramesh Bikram Shahi, ward chair of Nisikhola Rural Municipality-3.
The workers were buried when a mound of soil suddenly collapsed as an excavator, registration number Lu 1 Ka 3446 and operated by driver Bhadra Malla, was being used to upgrade the road.
