Of the 150 people injured in floods and landslides and brought to Kathmandu for treatment, 32 are still receiving medical care.
According to information obtained from hospital administrations, as of Tuesday, 19 patients are being treated at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, 10 at the National Trauma Center and three at Bir Hospital.
At Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, 81 people injured in the floods and landslides had been admitted for treatment. According to an update released by the hospital administration as of 9 am Tuesday, 57 patients have been discharged after treatment. Nineteen patients are currently receiving treatment in various wards and intensive care units. The hospital said one patient is ready for discharge, while four others have been placed under “other” management.
The injured patients currently receiving treatment are being cared for in departments including orthopaedics, the high-dependency unit (HDU), intensive care unit (ICU), neurosurgery and plastic surgery.
According to the list released by the hospital, those still receiving treatment include Ashok Shrestha, Bal Bahadur Gharti, Min Bahadur Shrestha, Navalesh Sharma (India), Pabitra Karki, Pema Tamang, Rajendra Bhatta, Ram Prasad Tharu, Rita Dolcha, Ritu Dangol, Suruchi Rana Magar, Tej Bahadur Tamang, Maheshwar Shah, Nima Dorje Tamang, Sijal Thapa Chhetri and Sitar Tamang, among others.
At the National Trauma Center, 50 people injured in the floods and landslides had been admitted for treatment. According to Dr Rudra Prasad Marasini, the center’s chief medical superintendent, 38 patients have been discharged after treatment so far. One patient was referred to another hospital, while another died during treatment. Ten patients are currently receiving treatment, including two in the HDU.
Those currently undergoing treatment include Bhakta Bahadur Bhandari, Sita Bhandari, Nandalal Gharti, Shambhulal Shrestha, eight-year-old Joel Ghale, Subas Bhandari, Indramani Gaire, Ramji Bishwakarma, Nil Bahadur Sapkota and Bhakta Bahadur Nepali.
According to the hospital, some of the patients sustained injuries to their backs, limbs and heads, while others suffered injuries to various parts of their bodies, including internal injuries. Dr Marasini said the patients are receiving treatment in different wards based on the nature and severity of their injuries.
At Bir Hospital, 19 people injured in the floods and landslides had arrived for treatment. Most of them have since been discharged. According to Dr Anita GC, deputy director of Bir Hospital, only three patients are currently receiving treatment there.
Of the three, one is in the ICU, one is in the male medical ward, and one is in the female medical ward. The other injured patients have been discharged after treatment. Following the severe floods and landslides that struck various areas of Rasuwa, including Bhotekoshi, as well as Nuwakot, Gorkha and Dhading, on August 26, injured people were rescued and brought to Kathmandu for treatment. Some of the injured were also taken to other hospitals in Kathmandu.
