The construction of a road tunnel from Basnetchhap near Satungal of Kathmandu to Sisnekhola of Naubise in Dhading district is beginning this fiscal year, informs the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency is providing financial assistance to the project. A team led by Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport is in Japan to settle some issues about the partnership.
Japan will extend Rs 15 billion loan at the interest rate of 0.01 per cent for a period of 40 years. The total cost for the project is estimated to be Rs 16 billion.
The Department of Roads says a global call of tenders will be issued in December-January, says the Department’s Acting Director General Arjun Jung Thapa.
It is expected that the 2.35-kilometre road tunnel will be constructed in next four years.
