Congress, Maoist request Speaker not to move CJ impeachment motion

Chief Justice Sushila Karki

Kathmandu, May 28

Lawmakers of the Nepali Congress and the CPN-Maoist Centre have decided not to move forward the impeachment motion they had filed against Chief Justice Sushila Karki.

NC lawmaker Min Bahadur Bishwakarma and CPN-MC’s Tek Bahadur Basnet, who had proposed and seconded the motion respectively, today wrote to Speaker Onsari Gharti requesting to halt the process initiated in response to the motion registered.

“We request not to move this proposal forward considering the current political situation,” they said.

Just on Saturday, the ruling and opposition parties had agreed to withdraw the impeachment motion.

As many as 249 lawmakers had filed the motion against the CJ on April 30, but the Supreme Court on May 5 had ordered not to move forward the motion citing the motion was not brought in line with the spirit of the constitution.
