27 inmates die in six months across Nepal

As many as 27 inmates died in the first six months of the current fiscal year across the country. They died of various diseases.

The Central Jail in Jagannathdewal tops the chart.

According to the Department of Prison Management Director General, Hari Prasad Mainali, age was the cause of most of the deaths.

The Central Jail has been providing medical and healthcare services to inmates through a 30-bed health facility inside the prison and patients in need are referred to other government facilities such as the Bir Hospital, TU Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Mental Hospital and Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre based on the severity of the diseases.

Presently, there are around 21,000 inmates across the country. Of them, some 3,000 are in the Central Jail.
