175 foreign delegates to participate in Sagarmatha Sambaad

Kathmandu, May 13

A total of 175 foreign delegates are set to participate in the upcoming Sagarmatha Sambaad, according to Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Rana Deuba. At a press conference held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday, Minister Rana announced that approximately 350 participants, including ministers and parliamentary vice-chairs, will attend the event.

High-level international representatives attending the dialogue will meet Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for courtesy calls and hold sideline meetings with their Nepali counterparts.

Minister Rana confirmed that preparations for the dialogue have reached their final stage. In the lead-up, the government organised nearly 10 pre-dialogue events, including a Himalayan Dialogue in Jumla, an Air Dialogue in Kathmandu, and other thematic forums.

The three-day event will be officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Oli. Guests will be welcomed with a cultural reception, and a specially produced documentary will be presented during the opening. Representatives from China and India, along with the climate envoy of the COP29 President and President of Azerbaijan, will deliver keynote speeches.

The dialogue will cover 12 themes, including limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C, promoting sustainable mountain economies, addressing loss and damage in island nations, and ensuring gender and intergenerational equity. The government has declared the theme of this year’s Sagarmatha Sambaad as “Climate Change: The Future of Mountains and Humanity.”
