14 killed in Baglung jeep accident

Kathmandu, December 3

At least 14 persons died when a jeep fell off the road into a stream in Baglung district of western Nepal on Tuesday.

A family had hired the vehicle (Ga 1 Ja 5219) to ferry kin to a religious function in Ishma rural municipality of Gulmi district. But it fell around 500 metres down the road at Bhimgithe, Badigad rural municipality-7 of the district, police say. SP Nawa Raj Bhattarai of the District Police Office confirms that nine women, four men and a child died.

The victims are yet to be identified.

Meanwhile, three persons sustained injuries in the accident. They have seen sent to Burtibang for primary treatment and preparations are underway to airlift them to Kathmandu.

One person is missing and the search is underway. There were 18 persons onboard the vehicle.
