PM Oli to lay Dharahara foundation stone on Thursday

Kathmandu, December 21

The founding stone of the new Dharahara will be laid on December 27 by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

According to Raju Man Manandhar, Heritage Department Chief at National Reconstruction Authority, work to rebuild the monument will gather pace soon after the foundation stone is laid.

“We have secured the construction site. Now work will gather pace as soon as the foundation stone is laid,” says Manadhar.

Manandhar also shared the foundation-laying was delayed due to Nepal Telecom’s underground fibers, drinking water pipes and electrical wires around the construction area.

The tower of the iconic Dharahara, which was razed by the 2015 quake, has been covered with plastic and barricaded on all four sides. The ‘old’ Dharahara will be placed inside a glass enclosure. “We will now put a glass enclosure over the old structure to preserve it,” adds Manandhar.

Manandhar added that GIETC-RAMAN J/V, the company that won the contract to rebuild Dharahara, will be given Rs 3.45 billion for the project.
