Over dozen villages inundated in Saptari

Over a dozen villages in Saptari have been inundated after two days of heavy rain flooded the local rivers and streams.

An Armed Police Force (APF) head constable has reportedly died in the flooding. According to APF Border Security Office Rajbiraj’s Superintendent of Police (SP), Ram Adhar Yadav, Head Constable Sumar Acharya from Ilam, currently stationed at Belahi Customs Office died in the flooding.

Police have also recovered an unidentified body swept by the flood. Flooding in the Triyuga and Khado rivers have inundated a dozen villages including two wards of the Rajbiraj municipality.

Mainakareri, Basbitti, Pilathi, Piya, Musarmiya, Piprahi, Rayapur, Loniya, Rupani, Pakari and Malhaniya among other villages including municipality’s ward nos 9 and 10 have been flooded, District Police Administration stated.

The water level is reported to have risen to at least three feet destroying clothes, food commodities, kitchen utensils and physical materials. The local authorities have rescued 500 people trapped in the flooding, Saptari’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Anuraj Subedi said. RSS
