Nepali Congress students enforce strike in Kanchanpur demanding justice for Nirmala Pant

Kanchanpur, October 2

Nepali Congress-aligned students of Bhimdutta Nagar have enforced a strike in the city, demanding justice for Nirmala Pant, the teenager who was raped and murdered in July.

Vehicles remain off the road and the market, schools and offices shut due to the strike. The strike will be enforced from 7 am to 7 pm, organisers have said. Earlier in the day, bandh enforces vandalised a car belonging to the District Attorney’s Office. The students broke a camera belonging to local STS TV and attacked Sagarmatha TV journalist Chandra Prakash Joshi.

The bandh comes days after DNA tests on suspects in the murder were found negative. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is currently in Costa Rica, said earlier this week that it might take years before the perpetrators of the crime are punished.

Meanwhile, the parents of the deceased have questioned police investigation into the case.
