Kathmandu, August 24
Nepal and India on Thursday have signed eight agreements on bilateral cooperation on the occasion of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s state visit to the southern neighbour.
Officials of the two countries signed and shared the agreements in the presence of Deuba and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi today.
Four of the agreements are related to post-earthquake reconstruction activities in Nepal whereas other agreements are about construction of a bridge over Mechi River, drug smuggling control, cooperation on metrology and standardisation, and chartered accountancy.
Nepal Reconstruction Authority’s Chief Executive Officer Govinda Raj Pokharel says the first agreement on reconstruction is about using the Rs one billion support India had earlier announced. There others are about extending the Indian support in reconstruction in health, education and archaeological heritage sector.
Meanwhile, the two prime ministers inaugurated the Kataiya-Kushaha cross-border electricity transmission line from New Delhi itself.
