Govt forms panel to probe Taplejung chopper crash

Kathmandu, February 28

The government has formed a committee to investigate into the Air Dynasty helicopter crash in Taplejung district of eastern Nepal.

Seven persons including Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari were killed in the accident on Wednesday afternoon.

An emergency meeting of the Cabinet held last night formed the panel under the leadership of former tourism secretary Yagya Prasad Gautam.

Nepal Army Brigadier General Deepak Banstola, Captain Prramod Lama and Tourism Minister’s Joint Secretary Buddhi Sagar Lamichhane have been designated members of the committee.

Minister for Education Giriraj Mani Pokharel informs that the committee has been directed to submit its report as soon as possible, identifying causes of the crash and suggesting recommendations to avoid such incidents in the future.

Meanwhile, the government announced to observe a national holiday on Thursday, mourning for Adhikari and other victims. The government will fly the national flag half mast to observe the mourning at various government offices and Nepali diplomatic missions abroad.

The government also decided to cremate Adhikari with state honours.
