Kathmandu, March 10

The government on Sunday has clarified that its recent agreement with Madheshi political activist CK Raut, who announced last Monday that he gave up the secessionist movement with the agreement, does not include any point about holding a referendum to address his demands.

Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, who signed the agreement with Raut on behalf of the government, told lawmakers during a meeting of the House of Representatives that reports that the government agreed on the referendum were all rumours.

Earlier, lawmakers of ruling and opposition sides had questioned about implications of the agreement after Raut interpreted a point as the government’s consensus for the referendum to make decisions on the issues he had raised.
