RJP-N questions govt-CK Raut deal, demands clarification in Parliament

Kathmandu, March 10

Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal( RJP-N) has demanded that the government give clear answers to questions raised over the 11-point agreement if signed with the ‘secessionist’ leader CK Raut and his group.

Welcoming the deal cautiously, the party’s coordinator Mahendra Raya Yadav, who was speaking in Parliament, said that his party was committed to the territorial integrity of Nepal. He asked, “Does the deal mean that the government has endorsed a secessionist movement in Nepal?”

Yadav said that Raut, one of the parties to the deal, has claimed that the government has agreed to hold a referendum in Madhesh about its ‘independence’, and the government should clarify its stance on the issue. “If the government plans to hold a referendum in Madhesh, it will not be acceptable to us,” he said.

Yadav reiterated that his party had no option but to withdraw support to the government as leaders in power did not adhere to agreements signed with the Madhesh-based party. He also demanded that the government make public the report of the commission it formed to investigate atrocities committed during the Madhesh movement in 2015.
