Deuba on amendment assurance: It’s not unnatural to let them know our priorities

Kathmandu, August 28

Nepal’s Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba says it is nothing unnatural to let the international community know about national priorities of Nepal.

Defending his controversial statement during a joint press conference with Indian PM Narendra Modi in New Delhi last week that he would launch a fresh bid towards constitution amendment, Deuba says, “Implementing the constitution by maintaining its acceptance is our national agenda.”

As demanded by the main opposition CPN-UML, Deuba gave his clarification over the statement as soon as the Parliament meeting began today.

He said it was not wrong to let foreign countries know about constitution amendment and implementation though they were internal issues.

However, the leader maintained, “Interference of any neighbour in issues of constitution implementation is not acceptable.”

He said he would not make any agreement with any foreign force on such internal issues.

He claimed the visit helped the two neighbours strengthen mutual trust.
