Bikram Pandey likely to run against Pushpa Kamal Dahal with Congress’ support in Chitwan

After the CPN-Maoist Centre decided to form a nationwide election alliance with the CPN-UML, the ruling Nepali Congress is likely to form a similar alliance with the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Democratic in a bid to defeat Maoist Centre’s Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in Chitwan Constituency 3.

Speculations are rife that the Congress-RPP-Democratic alliance will field RPP-Democratic leader Bikram Pandey, who is currently the Minister for Forests and Soil Conservation, against Dahal.

However, local analysts say that Pandey can challenge Dahal only if he chooses to contest the polls with Congress’ symbol of the tree. His own party’s plough is unlikely to attract enough votes required to defeat Dahal.

Meanwhile, leaders of the UML and the Maoist Centre in the district have said they have not finalised names of candidates for both House of Representatives and provincial assembly as the two parties are partnering and they are waiting for the central level decision to fix the candidates.
