Xiaomi phones are one of the most sold and are considered as one of the best in their category in Nepal. After producing a wide variety of smartphones, Xiaomi now has a solid performing tablet under its belt. The company has made some huge improvements over the model’s predecessors. The new Xiaomi Pad 5 has a glass build at the front and a plastic back and an aluminium frame. The camera piece on the rear sticks out a little bit which can be a sort of inconvenience for the user. On the front, it has got very thin bezels which makes the viewing experience much better.

The device weighs around 511 grams and is considered pretty much a standard weight for a tablet.

There is an 11 inch IPS LCD display on the tablet that has a high refresh rate of 120Hz. You can also enjoy Dolby Vision and HDR10 content on the Xiaomi Pad 5. Users are guaranteed to get a smooth experience on this tablet. There is also a low blue light display that provides effective protection for eyesight. The display also features a dedicated ambient light sensor to ensure precise adaptation to any lighting environment. Furthermore, it has a WQHD resolution of 1,600*2,560 pixels.

Cameras and audio

There is a single 13MP main camera with an aperture of f/2.0 on the rear of Xiaomi Pad 5. Accompanying the camera is a dual-LED flash. The camera can record videos in 4K up to 30fps. There is also a single camera on the front. The 8MP camera on the front can record videos in 1080p only.

There is no 3.5mm headphone jack on the device, but there are four stereo speakers for the audio. The company claims the four speakers give users extraordinary surround sound in both landscapes and portrait display formats. The ultra-large amplitude speakers deliver powerful sound and a direct impact, giving users a cinema-like sound experience.

Performance and storage

Powering Xiaomi Pad 5 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 (7nm) chipset. This device runs on Android 11 with Xiaomi’s own MIUI 12.5 on top. Meanwhile, the graphics are handled by Adreno 640. The performance has been massively improved on the Pad 5 thanks to the flagship 7nm process technology. Watching movies or videos on Youtube, playing games or just surfing the internet should be fun, smooth and uninterrupted (i.e., if your ISP provides quality internet).

There are two memory options for internal storage on this device: 128GB and 256GB. But, there is no option of expanding the memory with an SD card. Both variants have the same 6GB RAM option.

Battery and connectivity

Giving power to Xiaomi Pad 5 is a massive 8720mAh non-removable Li-Po battery. Charging this massive battery should not be a problem as the device supports 33W fast charging. The battery can last more than five days of music playback, 16+ hours of video playback and 10+hours of continuous gaming.

Xiaomi Pad 5 supports Xiaomi Smart Pen. It supports Magnetic wireless charging which means it can be fully charged in just 18 minutes. A 10-second charge also gives 20 minutes of usage time. The model that is available in Nepal only supports Wi-Fi. For further connectivity it supports, Bluetooth 5.0 and USB Type-C.

The price of the Xiaomi Pad 5 in Nepal is Rs 44,999 for the 6/128GB and Rs 49,999 for the 6/256GB variant.

Verdict

Xiaomi Pad 5 looks like a promising device from Xiaomi. This tablet is built not only for basic tasks but also for power performance. The Snapdragon 860 (7nm) is really a powerful chipset that allows you to indulge in high graphic apps effortlessly. Combing this powerful processor with a huge 11-inch display that has a refresh rate of 120Hz will provide a smooth experience for the users and the battery backup will make sure you have all the fun without worrying about the power.

As per the cameras, it does not provide justice to the specification of the device. There is only a single camera module on the tablet. Though it can record videos in 4K, the options for the users are pretty much limited. But then again, tabs are mostly used for indoor purposes rather than outdoors. But more options on the camera would have been better. Since it does not support sim cards, you will have to depend on Wi-Fi or a hotspot for connectivity.

Overall, Xiaomi Pad 5 is a great option for professionals, gamers or someone that wants a portable device that can multitask effortlessly.
