Kathmandu, April 2
World Autism Awareness Day is being observed today. Autism is a condition related to brain development. According to experts, autism is a condition in which an individual behaves differently from others, with distinct patterns of communication and thinking.
The day has been observed since 2007 at the call of the United Nations, emphasising the need to ensure dignity, rights, and equal participation in society for people with autism. This year, the United Nations has urged member states to mark the day by promoting respect for the contributions and rights of individuals with autism.
On the occasion, António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, issued a message stressing the importance of ensuring equal participation of people with autism in society while promoting the full realisation of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
