Won’t accept EC decision, am consulting legal experts: Govinda Raj Joshi

Nepali Congress leader Govinda Raj Joshi speaks with media in Damauli of Tanahun, on Sunday, November 5, 2017.

Tanahun, November 11

Nepali Congress leader Govinda Raj Joshi says he does not accept accept the Election Commission’s decision to invalidate his nomination for the federal House of Representatives elections from Tanahun-1.

Organising a press meet in Damauli of the district today, Joshi said the Commission’s decision was unconstitutional and undemocratic.

He said the constitutional body should have given him seven days to furnish a clarification after a complaint was filed against him.

“But, the Election Commission could not be free and fair; it acted under the influence and pressure of the government.”

According to Joshi, he was consulting legal experts about the next move.

He maintained that he knew about the decision from media and the Commission was yet to make any formal communication with him.

Earlier on Thursday, Joshi had filed his nomination as an independent candidate against his party’s second-in-command senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel.

But, Paudel on Friday filed a complaint against him, acting upon which the Commission decided to annul Joshi’s candidacy citing he was convicted of corruption by the Special Court.
