Butwal, October 30

A woman admitted to the Lumbini Provincial Hospital in Butwal for the childbirth has died. Whereas the hospital claims she succumbed to labour pains, the deceased’s family says doctors’ negligence resulted in the tragedy.

Demanding an investigation into the case and action against the culprits, the kin have not collected the body yet.

Gita Puri, 30, a resident of Bhujunge, Madane rural municipality-3 of Gulmi, was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday morning. She died the same evening.

“Just around five minutes before she was announced dead, she had told us over the phone that she was well but the child’s heartbeat was low,” Kamal Raj Giri, a relative of the woman, says, “Therefore, we doubt if she died of pains. It should be investigated.”

The hospital’s spokesperson Dr Bishnu Gautam, however, says the woman died while she was being taken to the operation theatre for the c-section.
