Withdraw civil service reshuffle ordinance: Congress tells government

Kathmandu, December 28

The Nepali Congress has demanded that the government withdraw the ordinance it issued recently to reshuffle the bureaucracy to staff the provinces and the local governments.

During a meeting of House of Representatives on Friday, Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa urged the governmet o scrap the ordinance and table before the House provincial and local government service bills. Thapa said that his party was ready to help the government pass the bills if the government wants to get the new laws enacted at the earliest. ‘Withdraw the ordinance, and we shall work on the bill day and night to get it passed,” he said.

Thapa said that ordinance is not fair as it prevents a group of civil servants from reaching the highest echelons of the public service. He called on the government to revisit the draft laws prepared by the Sher Bahadur Deuba government to reshuffle the bureaucracy.
