With dozens of traffic police personnel contracting Covid-19 and isolating themselves, Metropolitan Traffic Police Division has started mobilising dummies donned in traffic police uniforms at various places of Kathmandu valley.

The division says it has mobilised 22 dummies at key junctions of Kathmandu. As many as 428 police personnel in the valley have been infected with the coronavirus, and many of them are traffic police personnel.

Further, the use of dummies has also helped the division spread awareness messages about traffic rules as they hold placards with such messages, SSP Bhim Prasad Dhakal says.

“Looking from a distance, drivers see them as traffic police, hence, they limit their speed and follow the rule so that the risk of an accident decreases,” Dhakal informs.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City is partnering with the division to make these dummies and place at crossroads.
