Kathmandu, June 28
Former Prime Minister and opposition leader Sher Bahadur Deuba says his party will topple the government if it does not halt its assault on freedom of expression.
Deuba, who was speaking at a programme in the capital on Friday, said that the Nepali Congress will not allow the government to get Parliament’s nod on bills that aim to curtail the rights of the people.
“We have fought for democratic rights. We topelled the Rana government, the Panchayat and the Gyanendra government. We can topple this Oli government if we have to,” added Deuba. The NC chief said that the government is trying to force the police, the bureaucracy and the court into submission. “Although the government has withdrawn the Guthi Bill, it will try to present it again,” said Deuba.
