The Waste Management Bill, 2083, was tabled in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal presented the bill after the House granted permission to introduce it for deliberation.
No member submitted a notice of opposition to the proposal seeking permission to introduce the bill, following which the Speaker allowed Minister Lamsal to present it.
Presenting the bill, Lamsal said it was necessary to further clarify the roles and responsibilities of the federal, provincial and local governments in waste generation, collection, disposal and overall waste management.
He said the bill was essential to establish effective coordination among the three tiers of government and create a clean and healthy environment.
The main objective of the bill is to minimise the adverse effects of waste on human health and the environment.
It also aims to establish a legal framework for processing waste and using it as a resource by adopting the concept of a circular economy.
