UML warns against poll deferral

Top leaders of CPN-UML attend a Standing Committee meeting of the party, on Wednesday, June 14, 2017.

Kathmandu, June 13

The main opposition CPN-UML on Wednesday has said the second phase of local level elections scheduled for June 28 should not be deferred against under any condition.

The party also clarified that the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal’s demands about constitution amendment and increase in the number of local levels cannot be met before the polls.

A Standing Committee meeting of the party held in Capital today, however, viewed that other demands about withdrawal of cases filed against RJPN leaders and cadres and treatment of those injured in various demonstrations could be considered.

The party has suggested that the demand about increasing the number of local bodies can be settled after the elections through a commission.
