Kathmandu, January 4

The CPN-UML has demanded that the government immediately announce the date for National Assembly elections.

During a meeting of five national parties held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar this morning, the party accused the government and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s Nepali Congress of prolonging the stay in power and delaying new government formation process.

The UML leaders also said the date for polls should not be as late as February 8. Earlier, media had reported that Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav and PM Deuba agreed to hold the polls on the date.

But, the UML says the polls should be held within next 15 days.

In response, PM Deuba said he would announce the date as soon as possible after consulting all political parties and stakeholders.
