Kathmandu, June 15

The main opposition CPN-UML on Thursday objected to ruling parties’ decision to put off the local level elections in Province 2.

The party said the decision encouraged the willpower of separatist forces.

Ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Centre today had decided to ask the government to recommend the Election Commission for the postponement of polls till September 18.

The main opposition party also commented that the decision weakened the national integrity.

“The ruling alliance has committed a serious crime by postponing the elections without any concrete ground and purpose,” party Secretary and Chief of the Publicity Department Yogesh Bhattarai said in the statement, “The decision has not only deprive people of Province 2 of their right to exercise powers of local governments through their representatives, but has also seriously impacted the constitution implementation.”

Immature decision

Meanwhile, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Kamal Thapa said the decision lacked farsightedness and maturity.

He added that the decision would make the Election Commission a puppet.
