UML may ask elected local level leaders to quit party responsibilities

Leaders of CPN-UML, who have won local level elections in Province 3, attend a training programme, in Lalitpur, on Monday, June 12, 2017.

Kathmandu, June 12

The CPN-UML which has won the highest number of mayoral and deputy mayoral positions in the first phase of local level elections has hinted that it may ask winners from the party to quit the party responsibilities till they hold the public office.

UML General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel says such a decision to implement the “One person: One post” policy might be taken by the party soon.

“The comrades who have held party’s executive positions and now have become elected to executive positions at local levels might need to focus on working for people only by handing over the party responsibilities to other leaders,” Pokharel said while addressing the people’s representatives elected from the party in Province 3 at a training programme in Lalitpur today, “The final decision has not been taken. But, you should stay prepared.”

Party senior leaders Jhalanath Khanal and Madhahv Kumar Nepal had also spoken at the function.
