UML, Maoist Centre to divide National Assembly seats by Wednesday

Kathmandu, January 15

The left alliance constituents–CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre–have decided to finalise how they will jointly contest the National Assembly elections scheduled for February 7.

A six-member task force involving three leaders from each side is working on the modality of partnership for last one week.

UML leader Subas Chandra Nembang, who has been leading the panel, says they will finalise the modality and forward the proposal to top leaders by Wednesday. The Election Commission has set the date of next Wednesday, January 24, for nomination filing.

Nembang says the parties will spend one week in selecting candidates.

It has been learned that the UML will get around 60 per cent share in the partnership.

The panel has already finalised four bases for power sharing earlier.

Elections will be held for 56 of 59 upper House members. Three members will be appointed by the President upon a recommendation from the government.
